jump to expanded postyknow i just realised the recovery compass from minecraft is like, the perfect example of what i don't understand about how it's progression is structured.
the item is a compass that points to your last death point. sound useful! problem: you can only get it by going to the most dangerous place in the game, and gathering 8 of a rare item found in chests, a place so dangerous you are not meant to go there until you get netherite, which is the last progression material in the game.
at that point, you've already hit the top, and the ability to locate your last death point seems limited in usefulness at best...
